Welcome to YMUN India I! 

Dear delegates, diplomats, and changemakers,

My name is Luke Tyson, and I could not be more excited nor honored to have the opportunity to welcome you to the very first Yale Model United Nations India (YMUN India) conference, to take place on the beautiful campus of Shiv Nadar School in Gurgaon from January 12th to 14th, 2024.

It has been a longtime vision of the Yale International Relations Association (YIRA) to bring the Yale Model United Nations experience to South Asia—and we could not be more thrilled to invite around 800 driven, knowledgeable, passionate delegates from across India, and the globe, to partake in three exciting days of dialogue and diplomacy this winter. Our conference will boast a number of unique committees—tackling varied topics from international security to migration to global health—similar only in their delegates’ shared commitment to inclusive and innovative policymaking.

It is an interesting time to be a delegate at YMUN India because, quite frankly, it is an interesting time for humanity. In a world that seems to grow more polarized by the year, chances to take a step back and approach important issues from the perspectives of others seem to be few and far between. However, despite their growing rarity, or perhaps because of it, these opportunities for empathy and connection have never been more important.

This is the vision of YMUN India. To bring together some of the world’s most intelligent and imaginative young minds in hopes of taking on the planet’s most pressing challenges. I hope that many of you will not feel daunted by such a lofty task, but rather inspired. Over the three days of our conference, you will be pushed far outside of your comfort zone: asked to tackle unfamiliar, challenging topics from unfamiliar, challenging perspectives.

It won’t be easy, but I promise it will be rewarding. In return, I am confident you’ll build long-lasting connections, advance your understanding of international relations and global affairs, and, most importantly, hone skills becoming of the next generation of world leaders.
